Dragons Success For Caerleon Quartet

Caerleon quartet Zak Roberts, Owain Osmond, Nye Jenkins and Conall Couch have enjoyed a superb season for the Dragons U18s team culminating in winning the U18s Regional Age Grade tournament at Ystrad Mynach in March 2022 after beating Cardiff in a pulsating finish.

Additional individual representative honours have followed the boys. Zak Roberts, an elusive runner and fabulous play maker, has become a shrewd operator and excellent decision maker since his switch to scrum half two years ago. Another of our players who sharpened his craft playing “street rugby”, he joined the Dragons Academy last season and has represented Crawshays U18s this season as well as joining up with the Senior Wales 7s training squad. Zak is another of the current youth boys who have been with us since U5s and despite all his current playing commitments he trains with Caerleon whenever possible. A joy to watch, Zak remains a key player for Caerleon U18s.

Owain Osmond has literally been a “big hit” since joining Caerleon aged 13 and has blossomed ever since. A versatile forward, he is comfortable in either the second row or back row. Owain brings a real physical presence to the team, allowing those out wide to benefit whilst also showing good handling skills and speed around the park. A superb season with the Dragons led to Owain enjoying a highly deserved Wales U18s appearance against Scotland U18s recently. His development continues on an upward trajectory with the promise of more honours in the future.

Nye Jenkins captained a successful age-grade level Caerleon side for a decade and also enjoyed international honours this year, representing the Welsh rugby league team in the autumn. He is a born leader with a strong mentality and a passion to always win. Nye’s excellent understanding of the game, huge work rate and desire to win personal battles make him integral to the team.

Conall, as mentioned in a recent article, is currently part of the Wales U18s set up and having won his 1st cap against England is now heading to France to represent Wales in a mini Six Nations tournament. We wish him well and he goes with all our best wishes!!
