The dust has now settled on the last campaign and as we look ahead we can now confirm the coaching team that will take the club into the 2023/24 season. Caerleon RFC are delighted to announce a new senior club coaching team of Chris Cornford, Andrew Peacock, Richard Jones, Mike Griffiths and Dave Mulroy ahead of the new season.
Chris Cornford will be the club’s new Head Coach whilst also being in charge of the defensive structures. Ex-Newport hooker Andrew Peacock will be scrummage coach whilst a familiar face to the Caerleon faithful – former flanker and first team captain Richie Jones will be the new forwards coach. Mike Griffiths will be combining the team’s strength and conditioning and skills coaching and Dave Mulroy will be the backs coach.
New Head Coach Chris Cornford is another extremely familiar face at Caerleon RFC having been an ex-player prior to spending many years coaching within the club’s Mini & Junior and Youth sections.
On returning to Caerleon RFC, Chris commented: “In 2003 I started coaching at Caerleon RFC helping to rejuvenate the mini section at the club. I went on to coach every age group up to and including the Youth team. In 2015 I left Caerleon to coach senior rugby with the intention of always coming back to Caerleon to coach the senior side. I feel proud to be back coaching at the club and I’m also looking forward to working with the Mini & Junior section, helping them with their development.”
Chris works for the Welsh Rugby Union as a Regional Coordinator and Coach Educator and brings a wealth of experience and expertise with him, as do the other four members of the new set-up. As a club we are excited to see how the new season unfolds with the new coaching team at the helm and we know that you will all give them your full support for the challenges that lie ahead.
