Fantastic news! At the inaugural WRU District A presentation evening held at Rodney Parade last Saturday, we were recognised as the Community Club of the Year! In front of 250 guests, representing most of the clubs in Gwent, Greg Woods the Regional Rugby Manager for the Dragons Region outlined the reasons for the award and they are all down to your wonderful efforts.
As well as our first team having a fantastic season, scoring more than 100 tries when winning their league, we regularly fielded a second XV and youth XV as well as teams for most of the mini and junior age groups. Then to put the icing on the cake of course we had former youth players Tyler Morgan included in the full Welsh Squad, Angus O'Brien making his Welsh 7s debut in Hong Kong plus Harrison Keddie and Keagan Bale playing for Wales Under 20s at the recent Junior World Cup.
I have to say that it was a very proud moment indeed to see club vice captain, Dai Duly accept the award from Kingsley Jones on behalf of us all at Caerleon RFC.
As many people mentioned we probably received the most prestigious award of the evening and that was extremely gratifying to hear. Onward and upward is the only way now.
